The Conference of Missionary Societies, after consulting with the German societies formerly carrying on work in Hongkong, desires to submit the following proposals for the approval of His Majesty's Government. A request for the formal "recognition" of the societies desiring to be readmitted to Hongkong will be submitted later when the Conference has been able to prepare a complete list of the German societies which it desires to recommend for "recognition" in different parts of the Empire.
(1) The Berlin Society has decided that it does not desire to resume work in Hongkong. Conditions have changed since the Foundling Home in Hongkong was started and the Society would prefer to develop work on somewhat different lines on the mainland. The suggestion is being made to the Trustees in Hongkong that the property of this Society should be sold and the proceeds handed over to the Society for work in the Kwangtung Province.
(2) The Hildesheim Mission, which has carried on work for the blind, desires to resume its work in Hongkong as soon as permission can be obtained and the Conference of Missionary Societies hopes that such permission may be granted. In the event of such permission being granted, it is suggested that negotiations should take place between the Hildesheim Society and the Church Missionary Society, which has up to the present been taking care of the work.
